Commemorative Booklet for Takeda Shingen’s 500th Anniversary: “Takeda-ryu Kaō” Now Available

We are pleased to announce the publication of the commemorative booklet Takeda-ryu Kaō,
which includes contributions from the LLC Wa no Mori, along with an essay by its representative, William Reed.

A Kaō is a traditional Japanese signature, written in a stylized brushstroke that serves as a substitute for a name.
However, a Kaō is not merely a decorative representation of a name; it incorporates the individual’s life story, aspirations for the future, and wishes for good fortune.
Among these, the Takeda family developed and refined their unique Kaō style, incorporating anti-counterfeiting measures to prevent forgery. This distinctive form is known as Takeda-ryu Kaō.

At first glance, it may not be apparent what specific anti-counterfeiting measures were used.
The booklet provides detailed explanations of these techniques, so we hope you will take the time to read it.

Even today, Kaō signatures remain in use. For example, signatures on government documents, such as cabinet decision bills,
are written as Kaō specially designed for each minister and are considered as handwritten signatures.

This special 500th-anniversary edition also features Kaō of past cabinet ministers from Yamanashi Prefecture, offering a fascinating historical perspective.

The publication of this booklet was highlighted in the Yamanashi Nichinichi Shimbun on Wednesday, October 13.

For those interested in purchasing the booklet, please contact us at the information below.

[Note: Due to popular demand, the booklet is now sold out. Thank you for your support!]

If you are interested in creating your own Kaō, we are happy to provide consultations.
